Three Cheers for the President … A Timely Release
With no intention of praise singing, President Ernest Bai Koroma has impressed me by responding positively to the public demand to relax the suppressive and boring health emergency that has dented our social and economic life.
Had the president not relaxed, I would have rightly described him as a stubborn and callous dictator that was not working in the interest of the masses. A good leader always heeds the cries of his subjects. Many of those who were tempting the president to continue the emergency were shouting in their own selfish and greedy interests and they wanted the populace to become fed up with the government of our dear president.
I am allaying the fears of the President that the relaxing of the health emergency will never flare up Ebola to the point of another emergency as we have now acquired the necessary skills to dodge the deadly disease. The first attack took us unawares.
If President Koroma continues to exercise the same political prudence in other cases as he has done in the case of the health emergency, he will surely realize his Agenda for Prosperity and Food Security and he will ever be remembered as a democratic president.
I was never imagining that the president would have taken such a wise decision at the most appropriate moment. That health emergency was not only against the venomous Ebola viral disease, but also against the popularity of President Koroma-led APC government. The longer the emergency would have lasted, the more the masses would have been suffering and the more they would have been hating the government.
