Fishing Company Pays Le 100m Death Compensation

The Jaide Ocean Fishing Company based in China is reported to have paid the sum of 100 million Leones as death compensation to the relatives of an employee, Mohamed Alfred Kargbo, who naturally died on board the company’s fishing boat.

This was disclosed by the Commissioner of Labour in the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, New England in Freetown, Akmed Musa, during an exclusive interview yesterday, July 22nd, in his New England office.

He further informed that the compensation was paid after the relatives signed a Power of Attorney and Compensation Agreement, continuing that the company first deposited the 100 million Leones compensation into the Ministry’s Reserve Bank Account in New York before it was transferred to the Ministry’s Accounts Department in Freetown for onward delivery to the relatives of the deceased employee.

In another development, Akmed Musa also disclosed that the fishing company has also paid sixteen million Leones compensation another employee, Gbessay Tarawallie, whose right toes were amputated due to frostbite.

The hard working Labour Commissioner recalled that sometime in November, 2013, the two compensated dead and amputated employees were among a set of fishermen sent to the ministry for permit to work in China.
