Abortive Coup: President Resists … Stakeholders Meet Today
Things seem to be falling apart in the Sierra Leone Muslim Brotherhood (SLMB) mission where a fierce battle for power has erupted between the supposedly-deposed President of the mission, Mohamed A. Kanneh (in photo) and purportedly new Chairman, Alhaji Mohamed A. Kamara.
According to our investigation, the power struggle flared after a recent press release issued by an allegedly illegitimate group called Stakeholders Committee which declared that the President, Mohamed Kanneh and his entire executive were deposed and that a new administration chaired by Alhaji Mohamed Kamara.
The story goes on that when the new administration deployed its new executives to take up offices in the various regions of the country, they met stiff resistance from Mohamed A. Kanneh and his executive who refused to hand over offices but continued work on the grounds that they still the legitimate national executive members of the mission as they were not legally deposed.
Consequently, the new executive led by Alhaji Kamara wrote a letter to the Political Affairs Ministry complaining that the old executive has refused to budge.
To deliberate on the matter, several mission authorities including Regional Presidents District Managers are expected to meet at the Political Affairs Ministry today. The question many concerned members of the mission are asking is why use the Political Affairs Ministry to settle an educational matter.
