Sierra Leone League Update: FC Kallon Now Target Title

After their 3-1 victory over defending champions, East End Lions, FC Kallon captain Michael Kallay said they can now go on and win this year’s Sierra Leone Premier League title.

The Kalleone boys defeated the Killers 3-1 to go to the top of the league with 39 points from 16 matches and have a game in hand.

The victory left their skipper eyeing the league crown, contrary to early comments by the club that they are not focusing on winning the title this season.

“Defeating the champions has injected a special enthusiasm in us to go for the title this year. Such a win will serve as a warning to others that we are prepared to maintain the top spot until the final day of the league,” Kallay told Goal.com after the match.

“It is my happiest day because we are now at the top of the league table and above all we registered such a victory against the best team in the country. This no doubt has given us more zeal to maintain our current position.”

However, the skipper ruled out talk that their focus is to secure maximum points against the other big teams in the league.

He said: “We are not worried about facing the other big guns like Ports Authority and Mighty Blackpool. We are now concentrating on our next match which is also important like the Lions match.”

“We will be facing Nepean Stars in Bo and we always find it difficult to secure maximum points in the provincial fixtures.”

Salifu Samura gave the home side an early lead from the penalty spot late in the first half after striker Ibrahim Tetteh Bangura was brought down. Abu Kanoute made it 2-0 from a controversial header in the second half, before Tetteh Bangura scored his sixth goal in four matches to put FC Kallon 3-0 up.

Substitute Sidike Mansaray scored his fifth goal of the season to give the champions their consolation goal. The Killers now sit second with 38 points, a point behind FC Kallon, who have a game in hand.
