The Japian Stevens Award was established by the BBS following the mysterious death of Japian Stevens, whose outstanding performance at the school has left a legacy and esteemed admiration.
In addition to the annual award ceremony, the school is also supporting the Japian Stevens Educational Foundation in Sierra Leone, which was set up by Mr. and Mrs Stevens to support children who cannot afford to acquire education in the country.
Since its establishment, the Japian Stevens Educational Foundation has contributed immensely towards improving the educational career of three children who are presently attending the APEX international school in Freetown.
Given an overview of the School and the children’s performance, the Principal of the APEX international school, Mrs. Janette Davice, made a comprehensive presentation with emphasis on the children’s past and present situation.
She informed the BBS pupils that one of the three children is a replica of Japian Stevens as according to her; ‘the student has all the potentials exhibited by Japian especially in sports, art and theatre performance.
Mrs Davice expressed gratitude to the BBS for what she described as the meaningful impact they created on Japian Stevens life while he was a student of the school.
She assured them that such impact would be reflected on the children supported by the Japian Stevens Educational Foundation.
