Oracabessa Festival Kicks Off Summer Concert Season in New York
The second Oracabessa Festival, a celebration of Caribbean Culture will kick off the unofficial start of summer in New York City on Monday, Memorial Day.
Festival organizers assure the public of a unique experience “We are promising everyone a one of a kind festival experience that will be out of this world. The need for a festival of this kind is necessary to bridge the cultural divide between Caribbean nationals who migrated to USA over the past 40 years and their first and second generation offspring’s who are not very knowledgeable about the history and culture of the Caribbean,” said Anthony Turner, Irie Jam Media (event organizer) publicist in a statement.
“We feel it is our duty as leaders in the community to putting together this new type of a cultural festival for the Caribbean Diaspora. Fact is that our language, food and everyday rituals are all unique cultural expressions that set us apart,” Turner reflected
On this second installment, the festival deviates from its inaugural presentation of a cultural stage, fashion show, Domino Championship and business expo to mostly a musical festival.
The festival features an impressive lineup of reggae artists including veteran Freddie McGregor, Tarrus Riley, Sean Paul, Josey Wales, Christopher Martin, Dexta Daps, Grace Thrillers, Shuga, Stacious and Alaine the only female artist on the billing.
“Sean Paul’s appearance will help the festival attract not only the traditional Jamaica/Caribbean, reggae/dancehall patrons but mainstream fans who have long embraced Sean’s music. He has established himself as the top artiste from the Caribbean and has consistently demonstrated the ability to score international hit songs, having done so with Deport Them, Hot Gal Today, Gimmie the Light, Get Busy, Like Glue, Temperature, We Be Burning, Baby Boy and Come Over” said Bobby Clarke, CEO of Irie Jam Media.
