NATCOM – Public Notice
THE ATTENTION OF THE NATIONAL TELECOMMUNICATIONS COMMISSION (NATCOM) HAS BEEN DRAWN TO AN ARTICLE PUBLISHED IN THE GLOBAL TIMES NEWSPAPER OF THURSDAY 23RD APRIL 2015. THE ARTICLE PURPORTS THAT:
- THE OFFICE OF THE ATTORNEY GENERAL AND MINISTER OF JUSTICE HAS ADVISED FOR RENEGOTIATION OF THE GATEKEEPER CONTRACT ;
- THAT THE SAID CONTRACT HAS BEEN ANNULED BY THE COMMISSION;
- THAT THE CONTRACT HAS TO BE REVIEWED;
AS A REGULATORY BODY, THE COMMISSION WISHES TO STATE THAT SINCE THE INTERNATIONAL GATEWAY HAS BEEN LIBERALIZED BY LAW, THE COMMISSION HAS NOT AT ANY TIME TAKEN A DECISION TO TERMINATE ANY CONTRACT RELATING TO THE MONITORING OF THE INTERNATIONAL GATEWAY, CONTRARY TO THE CONTENTS OF THE SAID ARTICLE.
THE COMMISSION HAS NOTED THAT THE MANAGING EDITOR OF THE GLOBAL TIMES NEWSPAPER HAS PUBLISHED AN ARTICLE RELATING TO THE FUNCTIONS OF THE COMMISSION ON A VERY PERTINENT ISSUE WHOSE FACTS OUGHT TO HAVE BEEN CROSS CHECKED WITH THE COMMISSION BEFORE PUBLICATION AS IS REQUIRED BY THE PRACTICE OF THE PROFESSION OF JOURNALISM.
FINALLY, THE COMMISSION WISHES TO INFORM THE GENERAL PUBLIC THAT SINCE THE LIBERALIZATION OF THE INTERNATIONAL GATEWAY THE BOARD AND MANAGEMENT OF NATCOM HAVE BEEN WORKING ON THE MODALITIES FOR A VERY SMOOTH TRANSITION FROM THE MONOPOLY TO A LIBERALIZED INTERNATIONAL GATEWAY. THE PUBLIC WILL BE DULY INFORMED ON THE OUTCOME OF THE PROCESSES ACCORDINGLY.
