The Member of Parliament of Constituency 049, Port Loko District, Alhaji Seray Dumbuya on Monday 29th March, 2015 distributed over Le 10 million worth of learning materials to pupils taking the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) at a ceremony at his Kamara Street residence in Port Loko Town.  (Photo: Hon. Distributing the items, Hon. Alhaji Serray Dumbuya admonished the pupils to put premium on their education and be studious to become successful citizens in society.

He said although the Ebola outbreak has caused most female pupils to become pregnant while others have not been studying, “no examination is easy to pass, especially when you have been out of school for over seven months due to the outbreak that has claimed thousands of lives. Education is the only durable property you have and also the key to success. Keep on the faith by studying hard with the hope of passing your examinations.”

The MP also promised to award scholarships to successful pupils in the BECE examination intimating, “the Education Ministry has clearly stated that pupils without BECE results will not be allowed to take the West Africa Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE) so study hard to pass your exams.”

Mariatu Sesay, a parent, acclaimed the MP for his concern towards the education of their children asserting that the distribution of the learning materials was timely as the Ebola outbreak has had adverse socio-economic effects on them.

She further cautioned the pupils to be focused and studious to pass their examinations although they have been out of school for long affirming, “if you are determined and study hard, you will pass your examinations as the learning materials are of great help and relief to us parents.”

Foday Bangura, one of the beneficiaries, commended the MP for his generosity and promised that they would excel in their examinations maintaining, “although the outbreak has brought untold suffering on us, I want to on behalf of my colleagues assure our MP and parents that we will surely come out with good grades.”

The parents and pupils expressed appreciation to their MP and prayed for long life, good health, more support and success in his political career.

Highlights of the ceremony were the distribution and singing songs of praises for the MP.
