The project for the intervention is through a German Non Governmental Organisation and Welthungerhilfe and their local partner RECTOUR (Responsible Community Tourism Organization) that has been operating in the area.
Funds for the support are part of DFID Ebola Emergency Response Fund (DEERF) in partnership with Goal-NGO.
The project is providing food supply for many people in quarantined homes whose current livelihoods are dependent on the food supply provided by the Deutsche NGO, Welthungerhilfe (DWHH) during the 21 days period.
According to the National Project Coordinator for welthungerhilfe Mafilah Kellie Marrah “we are proving basic food supply to people in quarantine homes”
The Ebola situation in the Western Area Peninsular Area according to the Chairman of RECTOUR Francis Kappia is worrisome to many of the people in the area.
He said some neighbours close to quarantine homes are running away for fear of infection of the Ebola virus but our community mobilisation and surveillance efforts is paving the way for people to help in communities.
He said some of the Ebola task force volunteers have been trained by RECTOUR to assist households in the quarantined homes in proving security and also helping them to get water for drinking and domestic use in the homes.
WHH through RECTOUR provided appreciable food and non food items to the 42 households like rice, provision, water, charcoal and Top Up Cards and milk for children under the ages of five.
The quarantined homes will be receiving there supply on diverse dates until the quarantined period is over.
While standing behind the rope that restricts people in the quarantine homes they told our reporter that the intervention by Welthungerhilfe and partner ERCTOUR is commendable as Government response is usually slow.
They expressed gratitude for the food supply as it includes all the necessary condiments for a normal daily meal of the average Sierra Leonean.
The project has also initiated consultations and monitoring of the Ebola Outbreak in the villages along the coast line in the Western Area Peninsula.
Quick intervention can contribute to an Ebola free coastline which is under pressure from the hotspots around Waterloo and Western Area.
