China intensifies support to end Ebola

Presenting the donation of Medical Personal Protective Equipment to the Ministry of Health and Sanitation on behalf of his government and the People of China at a ceremony held at the Central Medical Stores Conference Hall in Freetown, Ambassador Yanbo reiterated his Government commitment and solidarity to forge ahead with the challenges to end the Ebola Epidemic in the country.

The Envoy disclosed plans to airlift and shipped additional gifts which included 100,000 sets of Medical Personal Protective Equipment, 5,000 thermometers, 100 Hospital beds, 40 Ambulances, 10 pick-up trucks, 30 motor bikes, 10 incinerators , 40,000 bottles of hand washing disinfectant and other health care products that are expected to arrive in-country between end of January and March 2015.

Ambassador Yanbo hoped the gesture would help strengthen Case management, Surveillance, Contact tracing, and other interventions including mobility and Infection prevention control in health facilities and for the reopening of schools.

He spoke on their contributions to the health, Agriculture, Education and other sectors, hoping that the existing bilateral cordial relationship between the two countries would help promote and deepen the relationship in the reconstruction and Economic recovery phase of the country.

“If we stand together we will win the Ebola war”, says Ambassador Yanbo.

Responding, Health and Sanitation Minister, Dr. Abu Bakarr Fofanah on behalf of the government and People of Sierra Leone thanked the Chinese government for their continued support in the fight to contain the Ebola epidemic.

He said the gesture came when others are taking their exit, and reminded his audience about the laudable assistance and support the country has received over the years from the government and the Peoples Republic of China, describing China as a true, and honest friend in national development.

Dr. Fofanah underscored the importance of the 5,000 thermometer to support the reopening of Schools, and the other items for essentials services in the fight to end the Ebola crisis and assured the Ambassador of the judicious use of the donated items.
