Haja Mallay was like a mother to me … says Maada Bio
In a very somber tone, Rtd. Brig. Julius Maada Bio disclosed that the late Haja Mallay Benn-Hirsch (in photo), mother of Mr. John Oponjo Benjamin, was like a mother to him following her shock demise on Monday, 12th January 2014.
In an interview, the Rtd. Brig. Julius Maada Bio recalled that he had known the late Haja Mallay Benn-Hirsch for over 20 years dating as far back as 1991 when he used to station in Segbwema as a military officer.
“Haja Mallay was a wonderful woman. She took me as her child even though I was just a platoon mate to her late son, Prince Benn-Hirsch. Haja Mallay used to cook for us in Segbwema because the late Prince and I were like brothers living together. She was a very kind and hospitable woman.”
The Rtd. Brig. Julius Maada Bio also revealed that the wonderful generosity of the late Haja Mallay Benn-Hirsch would have touched many lives in Segbwema and beyond.
Asked whether he has spoken to Mr. John O. Benjamin following the sad loss, Rtd. Brig. Julius Maada Bio disclosed that immediately when he heard about the death in the morning hours on Monday he phoned Mr. John O. Benjamin to express his condolence and that he has also spoken to David Benn-Hirsch in London.
The Rtd. Brig. Julius Maada Bio ended the short interview by offering prayers for the late Haja Mallay Benn-Hirsch and noted that her generosity, hospitality and kindness as a mother will be missed not only by her children and family members but also by many people in Segbwema and beyond.
