Bombali people cry Minister of Agriculture must hear this!
Sources gathered by our reporter states that certain farmers within and around the Worreh Makankry Village in the Makarie Gbantie Chiefdom, Bombali District, Northern Sierra Leone have expressed their dismay in the manner of cattle farmers leaving their livestock to destroy their crops and that no action has been taken by authorities in that community to help address the challenges between livestock and crop farmer.
Local farmers in the Bombali District called on the attention of the Minister of agriculture, forestry and food security (in photo) to intervene for the good of the farmers in that area and that will help solve the many problems faced by his Ministry in bringing food sufficiency and food security to his people.
We are worried and the Minister must hear this, farmers of Bombali District in Sierra Leone raised their voice.
Further sources reveal that the huge number of foreign farmers in that community, especially those that deal in cattle rearing from neighboring Guinea are threatening the peaceful existence of local farmers and that the local Chiefs plays very little role in securing the interest of their local farmers whenever complains are presented to them.
We will be happy to cooperate with farmers from different parts of the world into Sierra Leone who wish to bring development into the country through agricultural practices, members of Bombali farmers said. Adding, measures are expected to be put in order by higher authorities within the agricultural sector to help in a peaceful co-existence of all farmers in that community local and foreign.
A farmers, Madam Yabom Posseh Kamara disclosed to our reporter that she has lost many food crops in her farm land caused by cattle in that community and that the loss in her effort is painful to her development and the development of the nation.
Madam Kamara called on Dr. Joseph Sam Sesay to make frequent visits within the Bombali farming areas and help address the issues farmers in food production and livestock for the good of his intention he relentlessly works to achieve in the country.
Mr. Sulaiman Kamara a local food production farmer also said cattle farming is good in the northern district communities because of the growing of savannah grass in that area.
He further said that the growing of savannah and the rearing of livestock in that community is also good for national development and hopefully brings great profit to the people and those authorities in the agricultural sector are expected to stage the paramount efforts to control farming in the country.
