Foh calls on Sierra Leonean Students in China to be patriotic and committed to education
Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China, with accreditation to several other countries in the Southeast Asia Pacific has called on a cross section of Sierra Leonean students resident in Beijing, P.R China to be patriotic and committed to their education so that they could “be part of Sierra Leone’s Development Agenda”.
His Excellency Victor Bockarie Foh was speaking on Saturday 4th Oct, during an interactive session with students who had converged at the Embassy in a bid to know each other, given that since the arrival of new students in September, they could not meet with the old students because of the health crisis in Sierra Leone.
Admonishing the students, Ambassador Foh encouraged them to concentrate on their studies, work as a team and give their best to country when they shall have returned home. “Students are a very important core of society and more especially in Sierra Leone’s development agenda. You are the leaders of today and with good manners and good education, you will make good leaders tomorrow”, he said.
He called on them to continue the bond of brotherhood and friendship that they have been exhibiting amongst themselves. “You have a lot to learn from the People’s Republic of China. You o n l y need to study well, go back home better prepared to contribute to national development”
Ambassador Foh encouraged the students to contact the Sierra Leone Embassy at all times. “I am your servant here in People’s Republic of China. When I go back home after my job, I want to enjoy good relationship with you all. I am representing the State of Sierra Leone, the President and the people of our beloved nation”, he said.
He paid glowing tributes to Sierra Leone’s Minister of Education, Dr. Minkailu Bah and the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China in Sierra Leone for coordinating the arrival of students in P.R China for their education given the current health challenge back home. “I think the Minister of Education and the Chinese Ambassador in Sierra Leone deserve great commendation. Indeed, they live up to great expectations”
Ambassador Victor Bockarie Foh also updated the students about efforts made by the Government of Sierra Leone in the fight against the Ebola Virus Disease, saying “the President is very much determined to eradicate Ebola and then prevent it.
He said, students could help with public education by calling relatives back home and advise them on what to do. “We will win the fight against Ebola pretty soon and put it behind us. Whatever challenge we have in our country, there is only one country we all have and call home and that is Sierra Leone. Let us all be proud of our country. The Ebola Virus should be a rallying point for us all as Sierra Leoneans”, Ambassador Foh admonished.
Also making a statement was Deputy Ambassador, Madam Alice Kumba Momoh.
She emphasized the need for unity amongst students and for them to concentrate on their studies and to always think strategically for the good of Sierra Leone. “Be critical thinkers and excel in your studies so at the end of your studies and your families will be proud of you”, she said.
Adikali Sesay (Ph.D. student), Secretary of the Sierra Leone Students Body in P.R.China’s, thanked his colleague students for attending the meeting. As students, he said, they saw the need to be meeting to better understand each other. “At the level of students resident in Beijing, we have not been meeting and there is the need for meetings like this for us to know each other and better interact with our Embassy ”, Sesay said.
Adikali Sesay expressed their appreciation to the Embassy, especially the Ambassador for always giving open hands to students. He promised to put forward, in writing, concerns of Students for the attention of the Sierra Leone Government, through the Ambassador.
