Health Minister hails Paramount Chief of Kholifa Rowala Chiefdom
Magburaka, Sept. 15, 014 (MOHS) – Health and Sanitation Minister, Dr. Abu Bakarr Fofanah has commended the Paramount Chief of Kholifa Rowala Chiefdom in the Tonkolili district Masa Kama III for his commitment in the fight to eliminate the Ebola disease in district. Adddressing Paramount Chiefs, Councillors, top Civil Servant and other Authorities in the Tonkolili district on Saturday September 13, 2014 at the Tonkolili District Council Hall, the Minister, Dr. Abu Bakarr Fofanah noted Paramount Chief Masa Kama III positive implementation of By-Laws in his chiefdom which has resulted to the reduction of new cases.
Dr. Fofanah observed that the fines instituted by the Paramount Chief for harboring patients amounting to Le.500,000 levied against one of his subjects has brought in change in the chiefdom, adding that resources raised in the execution of By-Laws by any Paramount Chief would receive compensation in recognition of the good work.
The Minister made the pledge, and presented a handsome token of appreciation to Paramount Chief Masa Kama in recognition of his good work.
He described him as a role model worthy to emulate, and appealed to his audience to be united in the fight.
Dr. Fofanah described Paramount Chiefs as frontline commanders, adding that by the powers vested on them and with the support from the central government, he has no doubt that with their cooperation the Ebola war will be a thing of the past.
He implored them to intensify sensitization in their various chiefdoms, pointing out that the primary objective of his mission was to continue to educate and to rebuild confidence that the disease is real, and has the potential to wipe off a whole nation if neglected.
Dr. Fofanah said the virus is very active in the dead than the living, and stressed the need for people to avoid body contact and take the necessary precautionary measures.
Other highlights of the Minister’s address include an education on the three days House to House Talk, plans for survivors discharged package and Ebola orphans including food ration for Quarantined homes among other key issues.
The Resident Minister North, Mr. Alie Kamara reported an alarming death rate at Paitbana in the Bombali district mostly probable and suspected cases and warned against the denial syndrome.
He said the no case for three consecutive days in the Kholifa Rowala chiefdom means the Paramount Chief is committed to eliminate the disease, and called on Paramount Chiefs in both non-affected and affected areas to take the outbreak as a serious challenge.
The District Medical Officer, Dr. Osaio Kamara said the statistics is increasing in the district because of denial and insincerity.
He said Tonkolili is strategic bordering seven districts that calls for total support and cooperation to combat the disease.
Dr. Kamara reported 11 deaths, 29 confirmed cases, and over 100 Quarantined in the district.
He said they have intensified surveillance with additional officers, and can now boast of burial teams in all 11 chiefdoms in the district.
The District Medical Officer enumerated Yoni, Konike, Gbonkolenken and Kafe as hot spots chiefdoms, adding that Kholifa Rowala is gradually stabilizing.
The district, Dr. Kamara said, can now boast of two Holding Centres with 70 beds capacity, and reiterated the need to avoid harboring patients. He appealed for support in the ongoing fight to contain the outbreak.
Other speakers include the District Council Chairman, Mr. Alusine Sesay, and the Provincial Secretary and Chairman for the occasion, Mr. Raymond Bindi.
