Ministers sign MOU in Moscow for multi billion dollar railway in Sierra Leone

Sierra Leone Ministers of Transport and Aviation Leonard B Koroma and Lands Country Planning and the Environment Musa Tarawally signed an Memorandum of Understanding in Moscow with Rail Standard Services (Africa) for the construction of a multi-billion Dollar National Railway Network in Sierra Leone.

The international investor confidence in Sierra Leone and the leadership of President Ernest Bai Koroma was given a boost in Moscow Wednesday, September 10th, with the signing of a MOU for the construction of a multi-billion dollar cargo and passenger national railway network in Sierra Leone linking Guinea and Liberia eventually.

The signing ceremony took place at the Chancery of the Sierra Leone Embassy in Moscow between Russia Rail Standard Services (Africa) and the government of Sierra Leone .

The Minister of Transport and Aviation, Leonard Balogun Koroma, and the Minister of Lands Housing and the Environment, Musa Tarawally, signed on behalf of the Sierra Leone Government, while Mr. Sergei Lipatov and Mr. Anatoly G. Kozlov signed on behalf of Russia Rail Standard Services ( Africa).

Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to Russia, H. E. John Yambasu and Embassy staff witnessed the ceremony.

The project in full operation is expected to create 15,000 plus direct jobs and enhance the transportation of people and goods, particularly the export of our agricultural and mineral resources.

Thursday September 11th, Ministers Logus Koroma and Musa Tarawally will meet with officials of the Russian Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Health.
