Vice President calls on MRU countries to fight Ebola together

Freetown, Sept. 9 (SLENA) – Vice President of Sierra Leone, Alhaji Chief Sam-Sumana (in photo) has called on the three Mano River Union (MRU) countries to stand by one another in the fight against the Ebola scourge that is threatening the lives of people in those countries.

He made this statement during a courtesy call by the new Guinean Ambassador designated to Sierra Leone at his Tower Hill office in Freetown.

In his welcome address, the Vice President noted that the incumbent Ambassador came into office at a challenging time when the three countries are faced with a dreadful epidemic that they are fighting to heal.

The fight, he said, cannot be undertaken by Sierra Leone alone and that whatever success that is achieved should be reflective in each of the three countries; therefore, at these trying times, the three countries need to work together and share their ideas and solutions in order to bring the blight to an end.

Earlier on, the Vice President said that he was pleased with the continuation of the sister relationship between the two countries, a relationship he said has continued to strengthen the two countries as they share borders, inter-marriages, cultural ties, socio-economic activities since colonial days.

He maintained that the two countries have enjoyed a very good relationship during difficult times. Guinea, he went on, was one of the countries that aided Sierra Leone during the civil strife not only through its military might but also accommodating Sierra Leoneans, amongst other assistance. This he said the government and people of Sierra Leone appreciated so much that the two countries are sharing that passion in the area of economic activities not only as ECOWAS states but as MRU member.

He wished the new Ambassador a fruitful stay.

The newly designated Ambassador, Foday Camara assured Sierra Leoneans that his country is here and that their doors and hearts are open to every Sierra Leonean. He said he will work within the spirit of strengthening the good bilateral relationship that exists between the two countries.

Ambassador Camara said that Sierra Leoneans and Guineans are the same people irrespective of their colonial masters.

He assured the Hon. Vice President that his country will continue to be in the fight against the Ebola virus.
