At a well attending meeting in parliament, Dr. Lahai disclosed that stakeholders of Kenema had cause to visit the district in order to get firsthand information about the activities of personnel on the ground that are in the forefront of the fight against the Ebola virus.
The minority leader added that during their visit they engaged the six Technical Committees in the District responsible for eradicating the virus, pointing out that during discussions they found out that many of the nurses were in critical state due to lack of medical equipment with public perception about the nurses there not helping the situation.
The opposition SLPP strong woman said many landlords in Kenema are given ejectment notices to nurses because they work at the Ebola treatment center. She therefore appealed to government and stakeholders concerns to motivate staff working in the front line of the Ebola disease.
Dr. Lahai noted that even the burial team was being targeted by the general public while the wards at the Ebola center is overcrowded and advised that more be done to salvage the situation.
She said ambulances are not enough to carry suspected Ebola patients while some Ebola suspects are escaping the center and mingling with the public.
The minority leader called on the relevant authorities to see the need to provide enough food to quarantined houses of Ebola suspects and also advised that foods and essential commodities be sent to the district to avoid the downslide of economic activities.
