The Koinadugu District Ebola Task Force
Press Release – Issued by the Koinadugu Ebola Task Force on Friday 1st August, 2014 in Kabala after a meeting of the District Task Force set up to combat the deadly Ebola Virus now plaguing our country.
- In consonance with the National Policy on the ways of combating the disease, all Night Clubs, Lumors and Social gatherings not connected with the fight against Ebola are to be closed forthwith.
- No vehicular services to and from Koinadugu District for a week with effect from Monday the 4th August, 2014 to Sunday 10th August, 2014. Only emergency services vehicles will be allowed in or out of the district. The task force will review the situation after the one week period and issue the appropriate directives.
- All entry and exit points from the district will be manned by a joint team of the Police, Military, Medical Personnel and Volunteer Youth Groups with powers to enforce compliance with the laid–down rules in respect of the fight against Ebola. To establish wash stations at these points and encourage best practices in personal hygiene.
- As a forward thinking measure to establish an isolation ward at Kasumpe to take care of any suspected cases of the disease in the district.
- Every chiefdom shall form neighborhood watch committees in all sections of the chiefdoms to monitor compliance with and educate the citizenry on the basic preventative measures needed to be adopted in the fight against Ebola.
- To forestall any shortfall in business activities in the district, the task force has established a revolving fund to the tune of Le200 million in conjunction with the community bank in Kabala. The fund is to serve as a procurement center for all essentials for the business community in the district.
- The Military/Police and Volunteer Youth Groups to be trained in the correct use of thermometers, personal protection equipment like masks and gloves and the use of chlorine.
- The task force to provide logistic support to the Military and Police engaged in the exercise and to source funds from the National Ebola Fund for allowances for those personnel.
- All visitors to the district must report to the appropriate local authorities; Town Chiefs, Section Chiefs and Paramount Chiefs. No wild animals will be allowed into the district whether dead or alive.
- All traditional healers and pharmacists to register with the district Ebola with immediate effect. Registration to be carried out at chiefdom level and a final register to be established by the task force.
- There will be command posts in every section and chiefdom of the Koinadugu District.
- The task force to establish a Market Intelligence Research Unit.
