Africell presents Le 377.3 million to winners
Some people have assumed that one of the leading GSM operators in country, Africell will be short of promotions after several successful ones.
On Friday 1st August, 2014, the company held its final presentation of prizes to winners in the recently concluded ‘Play and Win’ Episode II in celebration of the Holy Month of Ramadan in which 267 subscribers won a total of Le102, 733,000; 83 sheep costing Le 380,000 each; 46-20,500 recharge units with 20 each winning mobile phones while 497 won Le 274,575,000 in the Episode I.
The promotion was conducted in two episodes that were tied to the 2014 FIFA World Cup Tournament whilst the second was tied to the Holy Month of Ramadan.
The promotions commenced on 12th June, 2014 with Le500 million on offer to lucky subscribers and ended on 27th July, 2014.
Africell’s Administrative Director, Abdul Aziz Gabisi, disclosed that the event was organized to reward the company’s numerous subscribers in celebrating the Holy Month of Ramadan adding that the show was designed around a cultural setting involving a rich Paramount Chief named Koblo Koblo of the Africell Village with three wives, two daughters and a town crier.
According to Abdul Aziz Gabisi, after six weeks of exciting daily draws, winners nationwide from all walks of life vied for the two star prizes of Le20 million each in the Episode II of the promotion.
The lucky winners are Abass Koroma with cell phone number 088 209672, a cart-pusher of Cline Town and Abu Kanu, a mason with five children of Bathurst Village with cell phone number 077 628675.
Abdul Aziz Gabisi furthered that the company would continue to promote its potentials as the architect of dreams and transforming the lives of subscribers by making their dreams come true adding, “we were thrilled by the success of the entire ‘Play and Win’ promotion that has further cemented the company’s reputation of transforming lives and restoring the hopes to its subscribers and Sierra Leoneans in general.”
He continued that subscribers can’t wait for the next rewarding promotions and assured them that they would not be disappointed informing “stay tuned to Africa Independent Radio (AIR) and partner stations and be the first to know.”
The Africell’s Administrative Director also reminded winners about the Finance Act 2008 which makes it mandatory for all lottery winnings from Le 500,000 and above to pay 10% lottery tax which Africell has deducted from all the winnings for onward payment to the National Revenue Authority (NRA) noting, “Africell na wi nitewok en Salone na wi country.”
Tommy Terry-Coker, Africell’s Media Relations Supervisor, who chaired the ceremony, called on subscribers and winners to disseminate the good news underscoring that the promotion is one of the best ways for the company to celebrate the 2014 Brazil World Cup and the Holy Month of Ramadan stressing, “the promotion is to generously reward subscribers nationwide for their loyalty to the company.”
He underscored that the ‘Play and Win’ promotion has ended but that the company would not relent to reward its subscribers as they have more in store for them affirming, “the company was thrilled by the success of the promotion and as usual subscribers are wondering what is going to happen next. Just wait and listen to Africa Independent Radio for the next big surprise. With Africell, every subscriber is a winner.”
Abass Koroma, one of the star prize winners, commended Africell for its novelty asserting, “Africell inspires subscribers with hope. Also, the company adheres to its corporate social responsibility than any other mobile phone company in the country in addition to contributing immensely to the growth of the country by sponsoring all sectors to enhance development. I am an ordinary cart-pusher but Africell has transformed me to a millionaire.”
Abu Kanu, the other star prize winner, acclaimed the company for its uniqueness in rewarding and changing the lives of its numerous subscribers maintaining, “I am a mason with five children and life is very difficult for me in Freetown but with just 10 units, Africell has transformed me to a millionaire.”
He went on to pray for Almighty Allah (God) to bless the company to continue standing tall among its competitors.
The presentation of prizes climaxed the ceremony.
The cumulative statistics for Episode II are: 2 won star prizes of Le 20,000,000 each; 11-Le 500,000; 55-Le 250,000 while 50 each won consolation prize of Le 200,000.
20 others each bagged mobile phones; 83-sheep and 46 -1,000 recharge units while 497 subscribers won Le 274, 575,000 in both Episodes I and II.
267 other lucky subscribers won 102, 733,000 totalling Le377, 308,000.
All the winners applauded Africell for transforming their lives through its unique and laudable promotions.
