Big demo for Transcend Mining Company

Residents of Taneh and Kafe Simira chiefdoms in the Tonkolili District recently led a peaceful demonstration to the Minister of State, North, demanding that government returns exploration license to the Transcend Mining Company.

Reports say the minister could not address the demonstrators as they were soon dispersed by the police.

A similar set of demonstrators recently led a peaceful demonstration to State House calling on the president to intervene in the matter involving Transcend Mining Company and Kingho Mining Company.

Government issued exploration license to Transcend Mining Company to explore the Taneh and Kafe Simira Chiefdoms and the same government nullified the license and handed it over to the Kingho Mining Company. This arrangement did not go down well with many of the locals who have been demonstrating.
