AFCON 2015 Qualifier … McKinstry in selection crisis

Sierra Leone national football team head coach, Johnny McKinstry and his backroom staff are facing a tough decision with team selection.  There are major doubts of players including Genoa midfielder Rodney Strasser that may not be available for this weekend’s AFCON qualifier against the Pirates of Seychelles.  (Photo: McKinstry in his technical area in Swaziland)

Norrkoping striker, Alhaji Kamara, Genoa midfielder Rodney Strasser, Philadelphia Union midfielder Michael Lahoud, Mustapha Bangura, and Orebro striker Alhassan Kamara, may not be available for selection due to unforeseen circumstances.

Alhaji Kamara and Alhassan Kamara both plying their trade in Sweden are facing the same situation.  The Sierra Leone qualifier this weekend is outside FIFA’s date and clubs are reluctant to release players from Sweden.

Alhaji Kamara has indicated to Football Sierra Leone that he will not be making the trip as the qualifier is not an official FIFA date.

“I love representing my country and I wanted to contribute, but on this occasion my club is not letting me, the date is not an official FIFA date,” the Norrkoping striker said.

Meanwhile FC Kallon’s Christian Caulker and Ibrahim Marcel Koroma are not available due to suspension; they are amongst the 15 suspended for a match-fixing allegation by the Sport Ministry and Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA).
