CID & CIID accused of injustice
Relatives of Chernor Kamara, a police suspect, have expressed dismay over what they referred to as the unlawful detention of their son at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Complaint Discipline Internal Investigation Department (CDIID) when the two parties have agreed on an out of police settlement.
The family’s concern also has to do with the fact that their son have been detained for over 72 hours with no charges brought against him.
It could be recalled that Chernor Kamara was robbed Le 20, 000,000 at his residence on 7 Conteh Street, Tengbeh in Freetown on 3rd July, 2014 and detained on Thursday 10th July, 2014 on allegations of torturing Ade Mana suspected to have stolen the money.
He was released on bail on Friday 11th July, 2014 but again rearrested on Tuesday 15th July, 2014 by the Officer-in-Charge of Criminal/Robbery, John Sesay.
Ade Mannah is a close friend of Chernor’s younger brother, Ibrahim Kamara had visited the residence on that fateful day so to unravel the mystery surrounding sum Chernor invited a soothsayer who confirmed that the money was stolen by Ade Mannah.
Chernor on the other hand called Israel, Police Officer and handed over Ade to him for further interrogation but could not prevent him from being mobbed.
On Tuesday 15th July, 2014 relatives of Chernor and Ade Mannah converged and decided an out of police settlement.
A female Pastor of Winners Chapel believed to be an Aunt of Ade demanded the sum of Le 5 Million cash while the IPad pam-top and phone was given to Ade on Thursday 17th July, 2014 at Connaught Hospital, Ward 5.
This medium gathered that both the Head of CDIID, CSP Shyllon is using malice in the issue as he will retire in October, 2014 and also the CID is trying to frustrate the young man Chernor so that he forfeits the Le 20,000,000.
Also CSP Shyllon on Wednesday 16th July, 2014 visited Ade Mannah’s residence at Kroo Town Road where he vents his anger on them because they only demanded Le 5 Million as compensation.
Ade Mannah disclosed to this medium that since he had received the said money, the Ipad and phone he wants let the issue be settled amicably as he was discharged on Thursday 17th July, 2014.
The Head of Criminal/Robbery Department, John Sesay said Chernor Kamara is his friend and that he cannot order his arrest because he was the first person to report the accused about a theft case but that he received orders from above at police headquarters to arrest and detain him asserting that the matter has attracted the attention of his seniors and therefore would not order his release or interfere in the investigations.
The police officer investigating the matter, Mr. Vandy, disclosed that the case is serious because the victim that was allegedly tortured is presently admitted at the Connaught Hospital where he is responding to treatment.
Most observers have described the action of the police to detain the complainant and three police officers as perversion of justice aimed at denying the complainant’s right.
The general populace is now questioning the police when somebody reported a case and later decided not to further the issue and the police are forcing the complaint who has made settlement agreement with his Lawyer to withdraw the issue.
