Addax donates Le35million, one vehicle for Ebola fight

Addax Bioenergy Sierra Leone Limited has not only pledged its continuous commitment towards the fight against, but also made a cash and vehicle donation to the Ministry of Health and Sanitation. I well attended presentation ceremony was held at the Ministry’s Conference Hall yesterday Thursday 17th July 2014 were Addax’s new General Manager, Trevor Endres presented ceremonial cheques of Le15 million from the company and Le20 million from staff (including those in Geneva) together with keys of a brand new Toyota Hilux vehicle.

The General Manager informed the gathering that the company is committed to save the lives of its staff and Sierra Leoneans. He pointed out that they at Addax have a God-giving heart, which is why they have joined the fight against Ebola virus.

Endres admonish the Ministry to use the money and vehicle for its intended purpose and pointed out that they will be extremely grateful if part of the money will be used on the response in their operation area (Bombali and Tonkolili).

Health and Sanitation Minister, Miatta Kargbo commended Addax for the donation, which she said came at a time when the Ministry is in need of funds to champion the fight against the virus. She said though the money will be placed in a basket fund, the Ministry will consider the request made by the General Manager to spend part of it in their operations area. Addax, she said is a good company that has good staff, which is why it realizes that it should join government to eradicate the Ebola virus. The Minister requested the company to provide a contact so that they will be sending information on how their monies are expended and where.

Receiving the vehicle, the Director of Prevention and Disease Control in the Ministry, Dr. Amara Jambai said the vehicle came at a time when the people of Kailahun have requested for one. He said the vehicle will be sent to Kailahun to help track the prevalence rate in that part of the country.

Meanwhile, Ebola update as at 16th July 2014 states: Eighty-five (85) patients have to date survived the disease, discharged and now back with their families in their various communities. These sixty survivors reported to health facilities early for treatment when they started exhibiting signs and symptoms of Ebola. For the 15th July 2014, a total of 29 samples were received by the Laboratory: Kailahun (15), Kenema (12) and Western Area (2).All of these results are pending. The previous 7 pending results are still in for re-testing.

The cumulative number of Laboratory confirmed cases are 367 and confirmed deathsare 121.

Seventy-one(71) patients are currently admitted at the Kenema and Kailahun Isolation Units.

NB: when we compared the previous laboratory day report, number of confirmed cumulative cases has been reduced due to duplication of cases in Western Area and Port Loko district.
