Is Operation WID dead?
Once more, the notorious Abacha Street has become flooded with traders who have made the street almost inaccessible to vehicular and human traffic. Where goes Operation WID? Is it dead? If yes, then let us give it a befitting burial.
Apparently, the euphoria that attended the launching of Operation WID has subsided as we are no longer seeing the operation in action even when the recalcitrant traders have re-converged on Abacha Street and other main streets in our capital city, Freetown.
We have observed that this country does not sustain operations; the Operation Free Flow came with a similar euphoria but before we knew it, it was stone dead. So, is Operation WID also stone dead or half dead?
What concerns us more is the fact that lumpy sums of state money are expended on these operations which end up in futility. Is that not tantamount to financial impunity which is a grave economic crime?
Why do we keep wasting state funds on operations we cannot sustain and do not yield the required dividend? Or may we be correct to suggest that these operations are invented just for certain top government functionaries to raise funds for their deep pockets?
