Soldiers Blow up Houses
Over seventy houses were recently demolished at Medina, Benguema Village in the Western Area Rural District. Affected residents accused soldiers from the Benguema Military Barracks of carrying out the demolition exercise.
They said the exercise was carried out without any prior notification. Momodu Jalloh the headman of the Benguema community said he had already taken up the matter with authorities in the Ministry of Lands whom had promised to carryout an investigation.
Meanwhile, commanders at the Benguema Military Barracks told SEM that they did not authorize any of their servicemen to carry out any demolition exercise.
