Focus1000 ends 2 day workshop

A Non Governmental Organization (NGO) Focus 1000 has ended a two day workshop on Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) and Immunization at the Grassroots Gender Empowerment at John Street Freetown on Friday 27th 2014.

In his welcome statement, the Chief Executive Officer Focus 1000 Mr. Mohamed Bailor Jalloh expressed happiness over the large turnout of participants which he described as a sign of commitment.

He stated that the Civil Society platform on SUN was established a year ago to support government enhance nutritious food. The CEO called on CSO’s, the media and other stakeholders to come together and build up a complementary forum. He encouraged district representatives to come up with update mechanisms to coordinate nutrition and Immunization issues. He maintained that if they work as a team they will be able to harmonize their messages and attain government and donor recognition.

Speaking on behalf of the Ministry, Director of Nutrition in the Ministry of Health and Sanitation (MOHS) Madam Aminata Koroma described the workshop as important and timely for the country adding that good nutrition is pivotal in the mental development of a child. According to her, Sierra Leone has been lacking behind in the area of nutrition, she therefore raised the need for more improvement.
