Promotions for Fire Officers

The National Fire Force which was established to provide predominantly emergency firefighting and rescue services in the country has decorated One Hundred and Fifteen Fire Officers to different cadre of the Fire Department at a ceremony held at the National Fire Force Headquarter Grounds on Monday 23rd June, 2014.

In his remarks, the Chief Fire Officer Nazir Ahmad Alie Kamanda Bongay stressed that management has thought it wise to appreciate the energy, enthusiasm, strength and courage demonstrated by Fire Officers by elevating them.  He emphasized that there is no amount equivalent to their sacrifices made in safe guarding lives and properties of the people but these promotions will motivate them to do more in the service.

Mr. Bongay reiterated that the Fire Service should not have taken his rightful position if they have not joined them in fighting fire in various parts of the country and advising the populace on the prevention of fire. He assured them that under the Agenda for Prosperity of His Excellency the President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma, every effort will be appreciated.

Mr. Bongay admonished the officers with a popular saying “To whom much is given, much is expected”. He urged the officers to continue to demonstrate more commitments on duty so that the Fire Service will continue to be sky high. He congratulated the promoted officers and urged those that are not promoted to have courage and keep on the good work as hard work pays.

In his remarks, volunteer Fire Officer of the Colling Dube 1 in the United States of America Fire Department Alhaji Foday Saccoh thanked Fire Fighters for their exemplary effort in upgrading the fire service in Sierra Leone. He assured them that he will make all effort to see that the Fire Service Department be raised to higher heights.

Alhaji Saccoh said that in many countries fire protection or prevention is seen as an important role for the fire service, as preventing a fire from occurring in the first place can save lives and properties. He reiterated that firefighters visit homes and give fire safety advice and fit smoke alarms for members of the public.

Alhaji Saccoh disclosed that his office in United States is planning to ship fire equipments costing over $10,000 (ten thousand dollars) by November. He called on them to continue their courage and give their selfless service for the good of the nation and called on Sierra Leoneans to appreciate the good work of the National Fire Force.

The program was climaxed with the decoration of thirteen (13) Station Officers, thirty three (33)  Sub Officers, eighteen (18) Leading Firemen, Fifty One (51) First Class Firemen, Honorary Chief Fire Force Officer, a seven year old M. J. Wusha-Conteh and a Gold award was given to Alhaji Saccoh from the United States of America.
