Spotlight on Charles Freeman
As a child I grew up in the Eastern part of Freetown, I started playing football for my area team called F.C. 102 Mandela. I was motivated by a lot of people, especially the team coach who goes by the name GB. At 102 Mandela; I played so many games that helped me build my confidence. I was spotted by an agent that goes by the name Ninja and he took me to his club called Eastern Juniors F.C. at Eastern Junior. I met a lot of talented players there like Rodney Strasser who is currently playing for AC Milan, Alhassan Bangura playing for Watford F.C, they were nice and always willing to help me improve my game. During my season at Eastern Junior I won Best Player and Best Midfielder Award after that I was in high demand by other clubs like Anti Drugs F.C, and Clintonians F.C.
I was finally released to play for Anti Drugs F.C., one of the most famous junior clubs in Freetown. Later the following year I transferred to Clintonians F.C. I had a great time playing there.  I then travelled to the United Kingdom and signed up for a team called Red Lions F.C., a club well know in the SE of London where Rio Ferdinand used to play when he was a kid. I was there for a couple of seasons and then joined Sierra Stars. There I met a lot of Sierra Leone professionals like Junior Parade, John Samah, Manga, John Kister etc. We played in the London Sunday League.
After that stint, I travelled to the United States to reunite with my parents. In America while playing at a local team I was also spotted by a college coach Richard Todaro who took me to Prince Georges Community College. In my freshman year in college we made it to the semi-final Regional XX and I was awarded as the team’s unsung hero, All American and All Regional Player of the year!
The following year I also played in the Metropolitan Soccer League where I signed up with Freetonians F.C. At Freetonians I met with great players like Solomon Anthon (Team Captain), Sampson Geeplah and many other talented players. My first season at the club we won the league undefeated, we won the state championship in both Philly and Dallas Texas. I enjoyed a great team success, team spirit, and sportsmanship at Freetonians. I’m looking forward to playing at a professional level and representing my Country in football.
