Sierra Leone beat Nigeria to win Nations Cup in London
A high powered delegation from the Sierra Leone High Commission in London provided a much needed boost to the Sierra Leonean national team when they played and defeated their Nigerian counterparts in the finals of this year’s African Cup of Nations in London.
Sierra Leone’s Deputy High Commissioner to the United Kingdom Tamba Mansa Ngegba, Head of Chancery Obai Taylor Kamara and First Secretary Clara Koroma were in attendance to render much needed morale booster for the football ambassadors who did justice to Sierra Leone carrying the national green, white and blue colours.
The game ended 1–0 with the Sierra Leonean side outplaying and outclassing their Nigerian counterparts in a final that attracted huge turn-out from especially the African community in the United Kingdom.
Sierra Leone earlier defeated Cmeroon 3–1 while the Nigerians edged Uganda 4–3 in the semi-finals of the tournament.
Deputy High Commissioner described the footballers as true ambassadors of Sierra Leone and Obai Taylor Kamara, who facilitated the programme on behalf of the High Commission, said he was proud to be able to provide boost to the nationals especially at such a short notice.
“This is a major boost for Sierra Leone seeing our national flag flying on top of the world in great fashion. I am sure the government and people back home in Sierra Leone would be proud of such glorious news,” said the Head of Chancery.
This is the first time that the High Commission has attended the annual football event.
