Chamber of Commerce donates Le50 M to fight Ebola
The Sierra Leone Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture has presented a cheque of Le50 Million to the Ministry of Health and Sanitation as support in the fight against the deadly Ebola disease.
Making the presentation in the Ministry’s Conference Hall, Youyi Building, Freetown, the organization’s President, Madam Gladys Strasser-King (in photo) lauded the Ministry and government for the efforts made in the fight against the spread of the disease for which they want to register their support and appreciation with a token of Le50 Million.
The spread of the killer disease, Madam Strasser-King observed, if not checked, will have an adverse effect on the government and people of Sierra Leone, especially the Business Community.
The Chamber of Commerce being the umbrella organization for the private sector and the major employer of the national workforce, Madam Strasser-King said they wish to offer their assistance with a view to meeting the enormous cost in the Ministry’s Programme.
The Organization’s President reiterated the need for more support to the cause, and appealed to the entire nation for maximum cooperation to avert what she referred to as the danger of an incurable but preventable disease.
The Public Affairs Officer, Alhaji Unisa Alim Sesay pledged on behalf of colleague members that they would give individual support in addition to the gesture.
Health and Sanitation Minister, Miatta Kargbo described the donation as very timely and registered her appreciation for the partnership with the organization.
She disclosed to her audience that the gesture came at a time when the Ministry is joyful over one of the confirmed cases in Kenema that was treated, retested negative, and discharged when the viral load decreases successfully after treatment.
The Minister assured the donor that the money will be judiciously utilized, and appealed to all Sierra Leoneans to report suspected cases to the nearest health facilities to seek early diagnosis and treatment.
