Bank Pasargad pays courtesy call on President Koroma

President Dr Ernest Bai Koroma has reaffirmed government’s commitment to continue to create the enabling environment for private sector activities to thrive in Sierra Leone. The President made the statement when a delegation from Bank Pasargad led by Mr. Mustapha Beheshti Roy, senior board member of the bank paid a courtesy call on him at the State Lodge, Hill Station.

President Koroma expressed satisfaction that following several visits by the Iranian bank they are now engaging with the private sector, adding that Sierra Leone has variety of opportunities in the agriculture, mining, tourism and services industries which the bank can consider investing in.

The President also noted that unlike previous years when it was extremely difficult to access information about business opportunities in the country, the private sector today, he said, has seen so much improvement in communication to the extent that any information that is required of our country can be easily accessed.

He urged Bank Pasargad to move into action as quickly as possible in order to maximize gains thrown up by the accessibility of the necessary information needed for feasibility studies and due diligence.

Mr. Beheshti Roy informed President Koroma of their desire to extend financial and economic cooperation between Iran and Sierra Leone, particularly between private sector institutions, and added that “we would like to explore the opportunity to invest in Sierra Leone for the mutual benefit of both countries’ financial institutions”.

The senior board member of Bank Pasargad said the institution is a financial group consisting of several holdings in steel and mining industries, in energy sector, housing and in Information and Communications Technology (ICT). He further disclosed that the bank is following up on the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed with Sierra Leone’s Attorney General and Minister of Justice as well as the Minister of Trade and Industry .

Special Adviser to the President, Alhaji Ibrahim Ben Kargbo who introduced the delegation said that a team of government officials headed by the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Mr. Frank Kargbo visited Iran quite recently for the purpose of extending bilateral relations and economic cooperation between Sierra Leone and Iran. Bank Pasargad, Alhaji I.B. Kargbo said, is in the country to look at the possibility for effective cooperation which His Excellency looks forward to.
