Sulaiman Fullah Sesay’s goal gives Sierra Leone’s Leone Stars edge!
Sulaiman Fullah Sesay (Bulgaria ETAR) opened his account with Sierra Leone’s national side the Leone Stars, by scoring his first ever goal in the country’s African Nations Cup (AFCON) Qualifier at the Somhlolo National Stadium, Swaziland, on Sunday 18th May 2014 .
The former Inter Milan player, who joined Inter during the 2007/08 season, put Leone Stars in a more commanding position for the second-leg in Freetown. However, in the 69th Sihlangu Semnikati levelled to make the final score 1-1 giving Sihlangu Semnikati a chance that will be taken into account.
Host side Sihlangu Semnikati started the match very bad and Leone Stars were in control for most of the 90 minutes. Leone Stars maintained their composure, keeping the ball in their quest to join Group D: Ivory Coast, Democratic Republic of Congo, Cameroon – plus winners of: Swaziland vs Sierra Leone/Gambia vs. Seychelles.
In September 2010, Sulaiman Fullah Sesay was called to join the senior squad ahead of 2012 African Cup of Nations qualification matches and made his appearance at that match, which drew 0–0 against South Africa.
He also received a call-up for Sierra Leone’s national under-23 team in the 2012 CAF men’s pre-Olympic tournament qualification round.
Despite reports of a visa scandal and bad travelling arrangements, Sierra Leone’s Head Coach, Johnathan McKinistry, helped the squad get the required result away from home.
According to report, the shattered Sierra Leone delegation that left Freetown on Wednesday for this all important encounter in Swaziland were on Thursday night embarrassed by the Nigerian immigration officers who vehemently denied the team access to climb any plane at Murtala Muhammad Airport in Lagos for Johannesburg, South Africa.
The return leg will be played in Sierra Leone on the 30th May 2014.
