Deputy Minister of Information inspires Leone Stars players

The deputy minister of Information and Communication, Hon. Theo Nicol has urged Leone Stars players to play for pride and to fly the country’s flag high when they take on Swaziland in the first leg of the preliminary round of the 2015 Africa Nations Cup on Sunday.

Addressing some seven players including, striker Kei Kamara at the VIP Lounge of the Lungi Airport Mr. Nicol said, “You are worthy ambassadors because you have been selected to represent about six million people, you now have the responsibility to defend your country by winning the tie. The football fans including the President are solidly behind you. So go and prove your mettle,”

The deputy minister further told the boys that the President has the youths closely to his heart and always feel good whenever the national sides are participating and therefore encouraged them to make the necessary sacrifice that would make the President proud.

Football, he went on is the most attractive global sports with no barriers and the players will obviously attract the world if only they can defeat their counterparts and progress further to play in the 2015 African Nations Cup.

“I’m convinced that with determination and right frame of mind you will beat the Swazis in their turf,” he said. Mr. Nicol was on his to the West African Postal Conference when he used the opportunity to briefly address the players.

However the Leone Stars camp suffered a major setback following the withdrawal of SLFA’s ex-officio member, Mr.Morrison Sannoh and Sorie Ibrahim Sesay from the delegation. Interestingly, Mr. Sesay who was ordered by the Minister of Sports to stop Mr. Sannoh from going through the checking procedures at the airport, got the worse part of his administrative career after he was asked to park up his luggage and to return home immediately.

Unlike, Mr. Sannoh ,Sorie had gone through the routine checks at the airport and was only waiting for the plane when he received the shocking news.   James Fofanah remains the most senior official presently with the boys. However the team arrived at the Murtala Muhammad airport at about 6am passing through the Bangul airport.
