Alie Abass in hot water

A prominent business man in the transport industry in Sierra Leone, Alie Abass, over the past two days had had sleepless nights no sooner he had that a bench warrant has been instituted against him by Magistrate Steven Conteh of Court No. 1 for failing to appear before the court to answer to the legal summon brought against him by Lawyer C.F. Edwards on instruction of his client, Sallieu Alieu Conteh.

Lawyer Edwards acting on instruction from his client filed a legal summon against the transport tycoon on the grounds that the latter terminated the service of his client, who was working for him as a driver, without giving him his end of work benefit. The plaintiff is said to have worked honestly for the defendant for five years.

The transport tycoon is also alleged to have abused his workers publicly and that who so ever challenge him, will be shown the exist. It was further alleged that workers working for Alie Abass a not issues with employment contract documents, and that they do not sign on any voucher or financial documents when receiving salary.

Further allegation made against Alie Abass was that he is selective in paying NASSIT contributions for his workers.

When the matter came up for hearing past Monday 12th, May 2014, neither Alie Abass, nor his legal representative lawyer Abdul Karim Kamara were present. It was against this background that magistrate instituted bench warrant against the defendant.

The matter was adjourned to today for further hearing.
