SLPP MP illegal deal frustrates Health Centre

A Member of Parliament representing the Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP)  in Bum Chiefdom, Moses Jorki, has admitted running a drug store illegally in Madina Bum, thereby undermining the health centre.

In a recent interview with Sierra Express Media, Hon. Jorki confessed that he has no license to operate a drug store nor is he a trained druggist or pharmacist in spite of the fact that he is a trained and qualified Community Health Officer who had practiced in the chiefdom for several years before venturing into politics.

The SLPP MP said he had cause to run the drug store to save the precious lives of his constituents; accusing the the Community Health Officer manning the Health Centre, Mr. Kabba of being woefully unqualified and very exploitative, an allegation which Mr. Kabba denied vehemently, describing it as a malicious ploy to taint his professional character.

“If I was not qualified, why and how should government assign me to man a class A health centre?” he asked.

MP Jorki argued that if Mr. Kabba was really qualified and not exploitative, patients, especially lactating mothers, would not be avoiding free health care services at the health centre and flooding his drugstore where they pay for treatment.

Honourable Jorki also confessed that he uses his wives who have no medical training to sell drugs and administer treatment to patients.

The existence of Hon. Jorki’s drugstore in Madina has rendered the health centre redundant, especially when most of the residents of the town and the chiefdom as a whole were being treated by him for several years before he was voted to parliament.

The people of the chiefdom are said to trust his treatment more than any other health officer sent to that chiefdom and reports have it that Hon. Jorki openly campaigns to patients to evade the health centre.

Concerned authorities in Bum Chiefdom and in Bonthe District in general are calling on Hon. Jorki to close his drugstore if the health centre is to survive.
