Cervical Cancer Immunization…Bo ends final round
The Bo District Health Management Team has concluded the third and last round of the first demonstration phase of the Cervical Cancer Immunization exercise funded by UNICEF and WHO through the Ministry of Health and Sanitation.
The exercise which stated on Monday May 5th ended on Friday May 9th, 2014 and targeted over twelve thousand girls, mostly school pupils in the Bo District.
According to the District Medical Officer, Bo, Dr. A.S Turay, the success of the just-concluded final round will determine the extension of the exercise to other districts in the country. He expressed hope that Bo District will score a hundred percent success in the just-ended final round.
During an exclusive interview with Sierra Express Media in his Baima Road office in Bo, the District Medical Officer recalled that in the first round of the exercise, Bo District scored 98.4 percent and scored 99.1 percent in the second round, boasting that Bo has scored the highest percentage in the exercise in the entire West Africa sub-region.
Dr. Turay further informed that very soon an assessment team will visit Bo District to make a final assessment of the concluded exercise after which the district will be graded based on its performance.
The District Medical Officer lavished praises on UNICEF and WHO for sponsoring the exercise and also lauded the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, MEST, the district and city councils and other stakeholders who partnered with the District Health Management Team to execute the final round of the exercise which he described as very crucial to maternal health in the district.
