Bakers Association opens new branch at Waterloo
Waterloo, May 10 (SLENA) – The Sierra Leone Association of Bakers (SLAOB) last week Tuesday engaged colleague bakery owners and bakers in Waterloo to address the growing problems affecting their work.
While explaining the purpose of the meeting, the President of the association, Abdulai Barrie, admonished members to remain calm, peaceful and united so that they can protect their collective interest.
He said their association was registered and fully recognized by other organizations in the country and urged members to push forward the organization’s activities.
Highlighting some of their challenges, Mr. Barrie said bakers are often arrested and detained by law enforcement agents especially when their products go bad due to the poor quality they bought from suppliers.
“We don’t have anyone to talk on our behalf when our men are held in police custody,” he lamented and called on the members to be careful while at work.
The chairman also spoke of the vulnerability of their members as they often exposed to various sicknesses. He therefore urged them to make use of their aprons while doing their work and also call on health campaigners to consider them for training and workshops, especially on HIV/ AIDS.
He said most times health campaigners don’t consider them especially on health education even though they stand vulnerable to many diseases. He therefore called on bakers to observe proper hygiene to so as to produce the best products.
