Musa Tarawallie: Why so popular?
Sierra Express Media was amazed at the crowd of people waiting to welcome the Minister of Lands, Housing and Country Planning, Musa Tarawallie, on 11th May 2014 when they heard that he was on his way to Kenema to attend the funeral of the late Resident Minister, William Juana Smith. When Musa Tarawallie finally breezed into Kenema City, there was a stampede of curious people rushing to see him and shake his hand. The strange scene attracted the attention of this press which immediately started sounding the 0pinion of people as to why the Lands Minister is so popular with them despite the fact that he is being demonized for spearheading the demolition of houses in the name of sanitizing this nation.
Many described Musa Tarawallie as a tolerant politician whose doors are always open to all classes of people irrespective of their political, tribal or regional belonging. They admitted to this medium that Musa is a generous man who is ever ready to listen to the cries of people and helping them where possible, though some accused him of having an ulterior political motive for his generosity.
But besides the opinion of the masses, we have every reason to extol Musa Tarawallie taking into consideration the billions of Leones he has raised for this state during his brief tenure in the Lands Ministry and he has also introduced a biometric land registration system aimed at minimizing the rampant land fraud and land cases flooding our courts nowadays.
Whether you do or do not like Musa Tarawallie’s face, the fact remains he has been serving well in all the ministries he has been heading, especially in the Lands Ministry.
It has been our observation that in Sierra Leone, some people who enforce law and order are often branded as demonic people and they easily become public enemies, but that should not dampen the enthusiasm of any Public Figure to continue his or her good work. So, keep on your good work, Mr. Lands Minister. Don’t mind the detractors and those who idle away their days just criticizing without proffering solutions and without doing anything to help push Sierra Leone forward.
Sometimes, however, our critics are good as they keep us on our toes, so criticism should not derail us. Some cynics may misconstrue this article to be written out of sycophancy and boot licking but it is simply aimed at awarding an assiduous minister with deserved accolade to enthuse him to work more. We should not always be looking at things through negative glasses. We should give praise where it is due, especially when such praise is reflecting the views of the masses.
