Hassan Gbessay Kanu to succeed Ernest Koroma?

Latest reports reaching this press have indicated that one time Minister of Finance, Hon. Hassan Gbessay Kanu, could likely be the successor to clinch the All People’s Congress (APC) Presidential symbol for the 2018 national elections after President Ernest Bai Koroma’s second term of office shall have completed.  (Photo: HE President Ernest Bai Koroma)

The reports added that prominent APC ministers are currently on a secret campaign for Hassan Gbessay Kanu to succeed Ernest Koroma come 2018.

Sources intimated that Hon. Gbessay Kanu is going to succeed the President because apart from his qualifications, credentials and experiences but he is a Temne by tribe. This was breaking news got over the weekend by this press. In an interview with some people in Freetown the intention of Hon. Kanu could be a recipe for chaos and deep divide within the APC party in the forthcoming elections.

It is very impressive that some of these alleged Ministers are well known by the Youths as one of them, Abu Bakarr Kargbo who asked this question “Does the APC want to stay in power for long?” Abu Bakarr Kargbo asked.

According to investigations some of these ministers used to work with the said Hon. Kanu, before the 2007 elections, they used to eat and laugh together. So what a mistake if today they decided to support their long term friend to succeed President Koroma?

But on the contrary some APC people do not favor the idea of Hon. Kanu “Who is Hassan Gbessay Kanu, I am not sure our party will do that, we need a successor that is young, dynamic, sincere, and energetic more like President Koroma,” said Alie Songu. To me is like President Koroma is giving a strong consideration to Hassan Gbessay Kanu’s proposal because of the tremendous respect between them. Again Hon. Kanu is more preferable to succeed President Koroma to those other Temnes in the next coming elections.

Despite on-going grumbling about the poor performance of some ministers and their deputies I also realized that President Koroma has no time to change his cabinet as any moment from now.
I have also realized that many a time media houses pre-empt a cabinet reshuffle and even though they might be true but since the secret leaks out the President decides to cancel his decisions.
