Let Lagerback choose his players, Galadima begs NFA

Support for Super Eagles Technical Adviser, Lars Lagerback has continued to mount with former chairman of Nigeria Football Association, NFA, Alhaji Ibrahim Galadima adding his voice to those who are calling for a free hand for the Swede to select the players he feels can deliver at the World Cup.(Photo: Lagerback)

Alhaji Galadima who spoke to Sunday Vanguard sports from his Kano base at the weekend said Lagerback has the power to decide on which player will suit his plan for the summer football festival in South Africa.

The Kano-born sports administrator was speaking at the backdrop of Lagerback’s recent statement that only Super Eagles players who are active in their various clubs abroad would be considered for call-up towards preparation for the Mundial.

According to him, the former coach of Sweden should be allowed to carry out his job to the letter without any obstructions, because for the NFA to have chosen him means that they have absolute confidence in him.

“I do not have any problem with his choice of players. He was chosen based on his capacity and competence on the job so whatever he decides to do in his pursuit for success, he should go ahead and do it. The NFA have confidence in him so he should be allowed to decide on how the team will do well in the World Cup.

Now what he needs now is our collective support to succeed. For him to make such decision shows he wants to  restructure the team. Undoubtedly, players who do not feature regularly in their clubs have no business with the World Cup because  it is not a child’s play . He should be allowed to choose the best for the competition.”

Whether he is given a target of getting to the final or not, he should be allow to do his job without obstruction. I believe whatever pattern he is trying to use is for the good of the team. The only thing Nigerians should do is to support him and pray for him,” he said.

Alhaji Galadima said that the combination of  former Enyimba coaches, Austin Eguavoen and Daniel Amokachi as assistants is ideal.

According to him, it is a way of encouraging the indigenous coaches in the country particularly in the enhancement of their profession within and outside the shores of the country.

“I think the combination is good especially having our local coaches to assist. In the past we used to have foreign assistant. Eguavoen  for instance  is upgrading himself outside the shores of the country, the decision is good,” he concluded.
