FCC plans to implement Byelaws

The Public Relations Officer (PRO), Freetown City Council (FCC) Mr. Cyril Mattia has said his Council is prepared to implement byelaws that have to do with child labour, public nuisance, and sanitation.

He pointed out that they have engaged schools like the Freetown Secondary School for Girls (FSSG), Girls High School and the St. Joseph Convent all in Freetown.  He said they started the sensitization to these three schools because, according to him school going pupils will be very good instruments to spread the information. He said these pupils would serve as drivers to pass on information to themselves and even to their relatives at home.

We want to protect the rights of people to properly manage garbage,” said Mr. Mattia adding that they have a good working relationship with Masada, a company that is charged with the responsibility of cleaning the Municipality.

The PRO emphasized that they would take the lead as they have the necessary machinery he measured the Metropolitan Police to be another wing to popularize the said Byelaws.

He revealed that a Court has also been established at Pademba Road Maximum Prisons in Freetown to try people who go against the said Byelaws. He dilated that they have a list of offenders who are to stand trial and supplemented that an amount of Le500,000 will be charged against law breakers or they spend six months in prisons.

Mr. Mattia said that suspects are always taken first to the police to obtain statement from them before they are presented to the Court of Law.
