In Sierra Leone, three in police custody for murder

On 7th April, 2014 at Court No. 2 of the judiciary of Sierra Leone, three accused persons charged with one count each for murder contrary to law by Magistrate Komba Kamanda for allegedly murdering one Charles Amadu Williams at Benguma Barracks in Waterloo. The accused persons are Samuel Munda Momodu, Lamin Sesay and Alhaji Bobo Sheriff, who are said to have murdered the deceased person Charles Amadu Willaims on the 26th February 2014 at Benguma Barracks. The accused people were brought before Mr. Mohamed Dauda Kabba Prosecuting witness 1 (P.W 1) who lives at Rokel Village.

Whilst on duty at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID Headquarter one Major A.M. Tamu of the Sierra Leone Armed Force (RSLAF) brought the three accused persons with a corpse and an inquiring file about a murder case.  He went further to say that he later took the corpse to the Connaught hospital with the assistance of Major A.L. Tamoh. He mentioned that the corpse was waiting for postmortem and on Wednesday 15th March 2014 the government Pathologist Mr. Owis conducted a postmortem on the corpse with the presence of Major Tamoh. The witness tendered the result for the death of Williams to the Magistrate but the content was not read. He went on to say that on Thursday 6th March 2014 a combined team of police personnel lead by one Sergeant Samura, including himself, went to the crime scene for further investigation.

Furthermore, on Friday 7th March 2014 DPC 6585 Arnold J.F in the presence of Sergeant Kroma MP cautioned the first accused person in Krio and was later recorded in English. At the conclusion the statement was read to the first accused person and he confirmed to be true. On the same day he interviewed the 2nd and 3rd accused person separately with the presence of DPC 10231 Sanu A.B. he cautioned them in Krio separately and also recorded it in English and was later read to them and they too signed in their own hand-writing. The exhibit was later marked D1 to D27 by the court Clark. He said on the 13th March 2014 he charged the accused person with the offence of murder contrary to law.

In this regard the case was later adjourned to Wednesday 16th April 2014 while the three accused remain in police custody.
