Massive misuse of public funds at Sierra Leone RTA
Latest report reaching this press indicate that the executive director of the Sierra Leone Road Transport Authority (SLRTA) Dr. Sarah Finda Bendu (in photo) in her quest to amass is alleged to be engaged in swindling public funds through dubious procurement activities to meet her egoistic desires. Inside sources say that she is not mindful of the fact that the SLRTA is a state owned statutory obligation to the Road Maintenance Fund (RMF), frivolous expeditious will stall the funding for the maintenance and construction of roads which is paramount on the Agenda of the Government of president Ernest Bai Koroma.
A retrospective introspection of procurement activities undertaken by the Executive Director Dr. Sarah Bendu revealed that they are perverted to get kick backs and not to enhancing the corporate objectives of the institution- to land credence to this perceive and analyze the under mentioned procurement activities.
The procurement of 30 Yamaha motor cycles for the use of traffic wardens worth over Le 300 million is preposterous. Any patriotic Sierra Leoneans will not procure one Yamaha motor cycle worth Le10 million when her erstwhile administrators went for TV’s motor cycles with the same cubic capacity for less than Le 5million. On compatible terms, the latter is a more robust brand. The sources further reveal that the magnitude of money utilized on consultancy services for in house training programs for record keeping and budget preparation conducted in 2013 also provides food for thought. Sources close to her office disclosed that hundreds of millions of Leones for consultancy turned by the executive director’s husband.
Hosting the West African Road Safety Organization conference in Sierra Leone by the SLRTA for a budget of Le 509 million is another issue to ponder about. The duration of the contract is 5 days and the executive director is purporting that Le 100 million will be utilized on breakfast, tea break and lunch each even though G. Shankerdas and Sierra Leone Brewery had opted to provide drinks and water at no cost to SLRTA whilst the Sierra Leone Insurance Commission and Rokel Commercial Bank contributed Le 4 million and Le 1 million respectively. The World Bank took the onus for all tental and conference interpreters as records showed that her predecessor hosted the WASO conference in Freetown for less than Le 120 million in 2011, taking into cognizant the inflationary rate a 100% increase on expenditure would have been reasonable.
It would interest the public to know that staff welfare terminal benefits are being paid piecemeal e.g. late Kanneh Patrick Koroma a traffic Warden and Alie Kamara.
