26 graduate from school of Cosmetology & Esthetics
Variety Institute of Cosmetology and Esthetics of Bathurst Street, Freetown on Saturday 22nd March, 2014 held its third graduation ceremony of twenty-six students at the Millennium Hall of Ebenezer Church on Circular Road, Freetown.
The Chief Executive Officer of Variety Group Sierra Leone Limited, Francis Lahai revealed that the institute was established in 2007 to cater for vulnerable children in slum areas, market places, the disabled and street children, especially for girls to be self-reliant and contribute to the development of the country.
Francis Lahai reiterated that Variety Group Sierra Leone Limited is a non-profit making NGO with the objective of supporting the disabled, street children and vulnerable groups in the country as its own contribution to nation-building
He appealed to the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology to formally approve the school to continue capacitating the human resource of the country, especially the middle-level manpower needs of women to become self-reliant to contribute to nation-building and disclosed plans to open a branch in Bo.
He congratulated the grandaunts and commended Save the Children International and Don Bosco Fambul for their support revealing that the organization has made several donations of crutches, wheelchairs, beds and mattresses in Makeni, Bo, Moyamba and Bonthe Districts and further revealed that they have also donated bags of rice, crutches, wheelchairs and tarpaulins to construct temporal shelters for disables at the Bus Station, Freetown.
The Guest Speaker, Hon. Helen Kuyembeh of the SLPP and Constituency 067, Bo District said that development partners are yielding dividends in the empowerment of women, congratulated and admonished the grandaunts to follow the successful path and reminded them that there are several dropouts in society due to the lack of opportunity.
She further stated that the global perception is about women’s empowerment, urged the grandaunts to continue forging ahead side by side with men, that the graduation is not the end of the road but to utilize their certificates to move to higher heights affirming that women are more vulnerable and therefore needs assistance to trod on underlining that behind any successful man there is a hardworking woman.
Hon. Helen Kuyembeh went on to laud Variety Group and partners for their support to enhance the development of women to take their rightful place in society and appealed to Parliament to lobby the Ministry of Education and Government to capacitate and approve the institute and affirmed that the certificates are an endorsement of the work of the grandaunts for the past years.
Director of Technical/Vocational Education in the Ministry of Education, Godwin B. Samba acclaimed Variety Group for providing vocational education to women, admonished the management of the institute to be patient, guaranteed the Ministry’s support, highlighted the invaluable contributions of the institute to the empowerment of women and appealed to it to continue the good work.
Among the dignitaries who graced the ceremony were the former Deputy Minister of Social Welfare and the Mayor of Bo City while one of the grandaunts, Isata Mansaray, rendered the vote of thanks while the distribution of certificates climaxed the ceremony.
