Brewery doles Le100 Million to Premier League Board

In its desire to be one of the official sponsors and partner of the 2014 premier league season, the Sierra Leone Brewery Limited (SLBL) on Tuesday March 25, donated the sum of a hundred million Leones to the Premier League Board (PLB) of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA).

“On behalf of the management and staff of the Sierra Leone Brewery Limited (SLBL), I’m pleased to make a donation of One Hundred Million Leones as our support towards the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) in organizing the Sierra Leone Premier League 2014 and to use football’s unique position as a truly global sport to make a difference… we are now well equipped for the next challenging era of football in Sierra Leone, “ the SLBL Managing Director, Willy Ngana told journalists at the Company’s press room during the presentation.

Mr. Willy Ngana says at SLBL, they focus on ideas and projects that have the most potential and disproportionate drive value noting that partnering with the SLFA is something they definitely believe in to ‘RAISE YOUR GAME’.

The SLBL MD further added that through football, they are changing lives, bringing joy and enjoyment to millions and working hard to protect the game they all love. He described football as one global movement united by the same goal-to touch the world through football, to develop the game and use its power and popularity to build a better future for the less fortunate.

“Football may be very much the same as it was a hundred years ago, but the world of football is now a huge economic, social and political force with the power to influence lives. There are few sports with football’s reach and influence, from the very top to the bottom of society, a sport that breaks down barriers and mean so much to so many,” he said.

Receiving the cheque on behalf of the PLB, the Chairman, Ibrahim Sorie Kamara lauded the MD of the SLBL for what he described as their timely intervention noting that the PLB see the donation as an investment in football rather than a Corporate Social Responsibility.

“Even though we are still struggling to get more money, this will go a long way in keeping the game going. We hope to have a very fruitful collaboration in future,” Mr. Kamara said.

A football stakeholder, who prefers anonymity, described the donation as a step in the right direction noting that for the first time in the history of the PLB, serious companies are beginning to associate with the FA without having a second thought.

“Some detractors might say the amount is small but if all those big companies can emulate SLBL gesture, Sierra Leone will soon be heading for a global surprise in football,” the Old Edwardians FC stakeholder said.
