Criminals on the loose in Moyamba district
Moyamba, March 19 (SLENA) – Police officers manning various checkpoints across the Moyamba district have made series of arrests of criminals including a driver carrying diesel and other lubricants believed to have been stolen from Sierra Rutile Company.
Last week, police officers manning the Fakunya checkpoint headed by Sergeant Abdul Bangura arrested thieves said to have come from Bo to steal cattle such as goats, sheep and cows in large number.
Discussing the ugly development to SLENA, Sgt Bangura said a vehicle believed to have been stolen from Mototoka in the Tonkolili District was intercepted at the said checkpoint, heading for Sierra Rutile, which sources say has become a lucrative centre for the sale of unlicensed and unregistered vehicles, allegedly stolen from their owners.
The driver of the vehicle ran out of luck when he was interrogated by the police and discovered that the vehicle was a stolen one.
A man was also arrested with a single barrel gun and handed over to the Moyamba police, sources say.
Officer commanding the traffic division in Moyamba, Inspector Nicol said they have been able to track down criminals due to the vigilance of his personnel. “We mount vigorous policing on the roads to ensure that criminals don’t get away with crimes,” he said.
