Chairperson of the programme, Hadji Dabo who is the Technical Service Manager said the dry mining operation at Sierra Rutile has to complement what has over the last 45 years been essentially a dredging operation and described the event as a significant milestone achieved in the annals of the operation of Sierra Rutile “which is indeed a further testament to the continuing interest of our principals in investing in Sierra Leone to the manual benefit of both the company and our country.”

“This new set of plants with the state of the art equipment which you see here is expected to increase the current Rutile production capacity of the company by some 30% and will contribute over 26% of the expected total annual production,” he added.

The pouring of libation was done at the Lanti dry mining site by the Paramount Chief, Madam Hawa Kpanabom Sokan IV who expressed her happiness that Sierra Rutile’s business is reopening at last.

Madam Kpanabom confessed that if the Sierra Rutile Company was not there, the area would have been in decline. “Today, many good things are happening that did not happen in the past,” she noted.

The commissioning of the Dry Mining plant was done by the Hon. Minister of Mines and Mineral Resources, Alhaji Minkialu Mansaray.
