President Koroma… Why not rebrand APC now?

The ruling All People’s Congress (APC) seems to be in different dilemma as high personalities such as Ministers, Deputy Ministers and Heads of Parastatals etc., are busy embezzling state funds all in the disguise of corrupt practices.  It is of a good stance that the President is sacking ministers that have been found guilty in corruption matters including the recent issue at the National Power Authority (NPA) indicating that what is done in the dark will surely come to light one day.  It is a general opinion in the public domain, particularly among those whom NPA refuse to supply electricity for days and weeks that the parastatals need thorough probing by the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC).

From making illegal connections for customers which causes the parastatals huge financial losses, to not properly registering the amount customers pay as electricity bill, to stealing of fuel, lubricants and spare parts, a lot of “yuki-yuki” characterizes the operations of the NPA that need unearthing, corruption sits deep inside the NPA.  The ACC needs to go in there with a fine sweeping broom to clear the rubbish inside there.

With regard to their attitude towards government property, what many people opine is that the bosses who manage and administrate most of the country’s public sector systems are not as half as patriotic, sincere, or committed as the President.

There is a saying that “you never know the value of a tree until it is cut down. We Sierra Leoneans can never fully appreciate the potential of the 27,999 square miles of living space God Almighty provided for barely 6 million people now until we travel outside our country and see for examples how jealously people like the Gambians cherish theirs.

Having gone through a turbulent political history since 1967 when the democratic train was violently derailed by the refusal of the then Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) government led by Sir Albert Margai to humbly accept the result of the March 1967 general elections result as announced by the Electoral Commission, our beloved country’s smooth passage into unity, freedom and justice has been frustrated by a self-serving political class.

The fact of the matter is that, the country’s growth and development would have been more phenomenal than that of the tiny island of Hong Kong, given that we have an abundance of materials resources that are required to make every citizen’s life a decent life. This should be the cause for serious rethinking about our present and future by the entire nation.

Under the current leadership of President Ernest Bai Koroma, there is no doubt that the nation is once more on the move. All the indicators of development are positive, given the tremendous efforts put in place by the current administration to right ancient wrongs in all areas of development.

Sierra Leone is many hundreds of kilometers away from where it was in 2007 when the bulk of the population were crying for regime change that culminated in the removal of the former SLPP government.

What President Koroma should do now is to remove the old politicians from the ministerial positions and let them go to the party office and strategize for the next general election in order to get victory. These remaining years of the second term should be emphatically new ministers to help work with you Mr. President we can all together rebrand the party and the country: all I can say is that the old ministers are doing what they want and not what the people of this country require of them.

A word for the wise is quit sufficient.
