SDI SL Condemns Attack on Journalists

Legal human right and advocacy organization championing Freedom of Information (FOI) in Sierra Leone, Society For Democratic Initiative (SDI) has on behalf of its staff condemned in no uncertain terms the recent physical attack on ten journalists from both the print and electronic media by some members of the main opposition SLPP at their national conference in Bo from 26th to 28th February 2010.

We acknowledge receipt of an apology tendered by some senior stalwarts of the SLPP pledging to investigate the circumstances leading to the beating up of those journalists who were providing media coverage on the national conference on an invitation from the SLPP national secretariat in Freetown but in the interest of peace, security and justice we demand a speedy investigation to be follow by legal prosecution in the court of law.

It would be recalled that since colonial era to date journalists under the new democratic dispensation SDI SL has pledged to take legal action against perpetrators should the SLPP fail to bring to book all those who bare the greatest responsibility for the attack on the journalists.
