At the weekly press briefing at the Ministry of Information and Communications conference room this week, the Chief Electoral Commissioner, Ms.  Christian Thorpe (in photo), stated that in the exercise of powers vested in her under Section 33 of the Constitution of Sierra Leone (Act No. 6 of 1991) and pursuant to provisions in Section 28 of the Chieftaincy Act 2009 (Act No. 10 of 2009), the National Electoral Commission (NEC) in collaboration with the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, will conduct Paramount Chieftaincy Election in the Tambakha Chiefdom, Bombali District on Thursday, 22nd May, 2014.

She also stated that the details relating to the process of conducing Paramount Chieftaincy Elections in the Malal Mara and Yoni Chiefdoms in the Tonkolili District shall be published in due course.

In an interview with some indigenes of Tambaka Chiefdom, they stated that announcement is welcome news as they have been wondering whether the election was going to take place anytime soon.

It will be recalled that the Upper Tambakha candidates were not allowed to take participate in the election while those from Lower Tambakha were certified to contest.

Up to press time we were unable to ascertain whether this vexed issue between Upper Tambaka and Lower Tambaka has been resolved.
